I was going to put together a 4th of July playlist, but I couldn't decide how to do it. I am not big on patriotism/nationalism so it would never be a whole Yay America type thing, but at the same time, I didn't want to make a whole protest list about all the horrors we should remember have been committed under the pretense of protecting freedom or the hypocrisies of declaring certain truths to be self evident while your slaves are toiling away in the field. See, I wasn't going to get political and I did. That's why there's no list. Anyway, like everything else, the concept of America and independence is complex. You can choose to celebrate the specifics or the concept itself and the progress that it started, no matter how slow. Or you can choose to be the one that points out the bullshit. Both are valid. Both are important. Both are a demonstration of the concept. So, there you go.
So the Spotify playlist this week is one of the more random ones I've put together. Somehow, there's a certain cohesion to it. I decided to start it with some more slow and somber stuff before it picks up, because why not? There's not much a theme, except it does sound a little dark for the most part. Dress in black and put on some mascara to listen to it. Apparently, I'll always be in touch with angst. Maybe next week's will be lighter.
